Just saw a news story about a controversy in St. Paul,
where Peanuts statues were being protested in a public park.
Could you do an EM.com entry, with related pictures, about this exciting topic?

Only weird people like to workout. I never minded sweating if I was playing volleyball, raquetball, tennis, etc. But just walking the treadmill, or lifing weights, no motivation at all. But I admire your willingness to stick with it. You should find someone to play racquetball with you. Or lift 8 ounce koubidehs every day.
Posted by Ed at January 26, 2005 01:52 PMI told him I'd take him on in raquetball. I figured it would be an even match since he's got a bad back and can't feel is foot and I have no depth perception.
Posted by Liz at January 26, 2005 02:40 PMRemember you don't have to go to the gym 3+ times a week just on the last day of the 3 month membership you need to swipe in, swipe out, swipe in, swipe out. Than you will have proof for all us nonbelivers that you actually went to the gym X amount of times.
Posted by Helga at January 26, 2005 08:30 PM'Working out' has always reminded me of the proverbial gerbil (hamster?) on one of those little wheels in his cage. You just keep running but don't actually get anywhere. I suppose the reward will come when you hit the scales, but in the meantime, there's certainly no joy to be found in the actual process. Personally, I'm with the others who suggested sports as an alternative. At least with that kind of activity there appears to be a purpose and, if you make certain to match yourself up against an inferior opponent, you can be certain to relish the thrill of victory at the end. That said, maybe you can start running in those marathons for people over 60 or challenge a group of middle schoolers to some hoops. :)
Posted by jennifer at January 27, 2005 04:50 AMI have never been very athletic. I've tried many sports, and have always sucked, or been mediocre at best. However, I was one of those oddballs who enjoyed going to the gym. I think I enjoyed challenging myself, rather than challenging others. Can I go another 20 minutes on the stairmaster, can I lift another 10 pounds? It was a good way for me to relax, take time for myself, blow off steam. I'm fairly introverted, though, which probably explains my preference (that, and a complete lack of hand-eye coordination...)
