Thanks

Thanks to whoever recommended The Office to me. That is the funniest show I have ever seen.

It ain't right.

Most of you know me and my great love of food. Perhaps you didn’t know that we Minnesotans are currently in a fantastic food period. Yes. We’re currently lucky enough to be able to enjoy the phenomenon know as the McRib.

The McRib is the world’s most perfect and wonderful sandwich. It is a rarity here in the United States and comes around about as often as Haley’s Comet, but it’s been available here in the Twin Cities area (for a limited time only) for about three weeks. As today, Tuesday, is my day off, I decided to enjoy one for lunch.

Now if you’re not completely familiar with the McRib I’ll try and describe it to you. It’s a pork-based sandwich that, I guess, is supposed to create the notion of eating BBQ ribs on a sandwich. What you actually get is a ‘pressboard’ pork creation that is actually die-cut to resemble a small rack of ribs. This is put on a rectangular bun and slathered with sweet BBQ sauce, some pickle slices, and onions. I usually get it without the onions.

Here are a couple of McDonalds own visual representations of the McRib.

Delightful, right? Looks delicious?

Here’s what they served me today.

WTF?

Unreal. This is not a fabricated photograph, not doctored in any way. Note the roundness of the bun. Note the folded-overness of the pork thing. What I got was the pressboard porkloaf FOLDED IN HALF AND STUCK ON A HAMBURGER BUN!

There was no explanation.

There was no, “We’re out of McRib buns, Sir, but we can fold the thing over and stick it on a hamburger bun if you’d like”.

Nothing. They just gave it to me just like that.

If they ran out of hamburger buns, would they serve the BigMac to you on hotcakes? Do they serve the Egg McMuffin on hamburger buns when they run out of muffins? The rectangular bun is part and parcel of the McRib experience.

Innocence is lost. I'm disgusted. Nastygram in the works to McDonalds Corporate.
