Erik Satie

Erik Satie's Gnossiennes

I've been trying to polish up a bit of music that I learned about a year ago. Stuff doesn't seem to be staying in memory as much lately as it used to, but it seems to be coming along with a little practice.

Watching friends play effortless piano is as much inspirational as it is frustrating. While I would someday like to know that feeling, it frustrates me that it takes so much work to get there. I suppose it is just like anything great... it takes great effort.

I think I've been inspired to at least practice more, if not actually seek out lessons again.

Nene & Her Pretty Party Dress

Nene after a few coctails.

I was happy to be invited, and decided to help celebrate Liz's birthday tonight at Bucca and got to sit across the table from Nene. Unfortunately, I think Nene was kinda creeped out that I kept staring at her, but her seemingly endless stream of facial expressions kept my attention.

What do they all mean?
Are there a finite number of them?
Does she create new ones?
Where to they come from?
Has she learned them from family members?
Does she practice them in the mirror?
Will her face really get stuck that way like my Mom used to tell me?

Dinner was great fun. We had tortelloni (Liz's favorite), ravioli (Sarah's favorite), macaroni rosa (Nene's favorite), beans, and garlic mashies. I think Liz had a good time. They're all going out drinkin' while I sit here and type. Raff invited me to chill with them, but I decided to kick it up in my crib. You mah dawg, Raff, you mah dawg.

Maverick's

Since originally this site was supposed to (and hopefully will eventually) be a restaurant review site - It's time to unleash with Mavericks.

Maverick's
1746 Lexington Ave., Roseville; (651) 488-1788
Hours: 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Monday-Friday; 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Saturday

Sure - It's an unsuspecting shitty little storefront in some unsuspecting shitty little strip mall in unsuspecting shitty Roseville - But JESUS H CHRIST can they make a sandwich!

I usually have the roast beef combo ($6.97 and worth every penny). That's a REAL roast beef sandwich on a freshly baked roll, the WORLDS FINEST french fries, and a fountain beverage. They have Pepsi which kinda sux, but I can live with the Dr. Pepper.

The roast beef is actually ROAST BEEF, not that chopped and formed rodent loaf found at Arbys. It is delicious, lean, rare-to-medium beef, thinly sliced. It rivals the prime rib at Nye's.

The true secret, in my opinion, can be created from the accoutrements on the condiment bar. I strongly recommend the following:

  • one small cup (provided for your condiment pleasure)
  • 1/2 Horseradish Sauce
  • 1/2 BBQ Sauce

Now you can use one of the smaller french fries to blend the two together into a delicious fry dipping sauce. Mavericks fries are by no means flaccid.

They also sell beef brisket sandwiches on a nice pumpernickel roll, but I'm all about the roast beef sandwich. Call me a purist.

Java Jacks

Goddam internet went out last night. I don't know if it's the cable modem or what but it's pissin' me off. Thank God for Java Jacks and wireless internet. I think I'm coming to grips with what a junkie I am. Lord knows if it wasn't for Java Jacks I might actually get some things done around the house.

Since it's Tuesday I'll be enjoying some music at The Church of St Lous, King of France. There are recitals on the Casavant organ there every Tuesday at 12:35. Be careful parking - It ain't like it used to be.

Strong Bad

If you haven't checked out Homestar Runner, I highly recommend the Strong Bad emails. They're updated every monday. Sure, they're popular with the 14 year old crowd, but Strong Bad is such a loveable character that I just can't stand it. Yeah. I got the T-Shirt.
