Happy Easter

Somewhere in Iowa (another name for Illinois) I spent Easter with Elizabeth's family. All the great Christian traditions were represented: Ham, eggs (deviled & hidden), communion, passing the peace, passing the peas, song, dance and driving.

Iowa has perhaps the most fascinating and beautiful driving landscapes of any of our 50 states. I tried to capture the essence of both Northern Iowa and Southern Iowa. Breathtaking, eh?

Early on Easter morning we all met at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in some quad city or another. The service was packed. Luckily for us out-of-towner's the Lutheran church service comes complete with instructions. I knew when to sit, when to stand, to what page to turn in the supplementary materials , when to talk back to the minister, etc. Songs were sung, collection was passed, communion was taken, and then back to the house for lunch and festivities.

Here’s a few highlights of the afternoon:

My Solo – ‘Go Down Moses’ – It was a huge hit with the ladies.

Seven More Hours of Driving?

I can honestly say that I experienced one of the most memorable and enjoyable Easter Holidays of my years.

Thanks again to Rosita & Steve, my hosts, for inviting me into your home and your church. And for the Pella Bologna!!!

And - As an added bonus for getting lost, I found out that Iowa also has Steak N Shake - A favorite from my youth!

Sounds like you had it easy, Michael.

I had to go to a full Catholic Mass and brunch at the Hilton.

Boy, them people like to sing.

P.S. - You lying bastard! That lyric sheet is for "Blow the Man Down", Not "Go Down Moses" !

Steak and Shake, my ass! It's a Freakin' HAMBURGER! Once you grind it up, it's no longer steak! They oughta change the name to Burger and Shake. That's it, I'm starting a class action lawsuit!

Communion? I thought it was matzoh and Maneschevitz ;-)

Posted by: Stormin' at April 14, 2004 09:58 AM

I thought it was Matzoh and Maneschevitz, too. THEN they tell me it was the body & blood of Christ.

Body & blood of Christ, Steak and Shake - I'm beginning to detect a theme here...

Uh oh, I'm going to hell for sure!
